Today’s PrimalMed Prescription…Happy Birthday!
CREATE new memories and CELEBRATE life’s milestones.
So this past weekend I’m sitting in the stands of Fenway Park, at the commencement ceremonies of Northeastern University, watching PrimalMed Jr. receive his Masters degree. Last month, the other PrimalMed Jr. started her new job out in sunny California. Way to go!!!
And this past Sunday, a subscriber shared that he completed a 5K and triumphantly crossed the finish line with a smile…wonky knees and all.
Milestone. Milestone. Milestone.
Today, PrimalRD gets to celebrate another trip around the sun.
Happy Birthday PrimalRD!!! 39 never looked so good!!!
We look at the pillars of metabolic health and of course we tend to focus on nutrition and movement. Gotta eat grass-fed and organic! Gotta get my steps in and walk after dinner!
BUT
I submit that celebrating one’s accomplishments and marking those milestones is crucial and a VERY VERY key input into your inner namaste and therefore paramount in optimizing your own personal operating system (OS for you computer geeks).
Now, not everyone reaches these particular milestones every year. Milestones are, by their very definition, simply a marker.
A marker of your personal journey. A marker on the road you take.
YOU get to decide how this input fits into your life. Celebrating milestones is also a time not only to reflect and look back at where you where, but also a challenge to look to the future. It can be a reminder; a call to action. Where will YOU be in 5 years? What will you learn? What’s the plan? What can you create?
ABC=Always Be Creating.
This way, you are in a state of forward motion. Every day. Mark off those weeks and months and mark those accomplishments and all that you have learned. It will definitely fuel your sense of purpose and sense of agency.
Some years you hit singles and some years you hit home runs. Yes, there are even some years where you seem like you are mired in a slump and strike out (It’s baseball season, hence the baseball analogies). Hey, failure is just another way of learning what not to do and what doesn’t work. (FAIL= faithful attempt in learning).
When you take a risk to leave your comfort zone and start that new job or you keep pluckin’ away to earn that Masters degree, pat yourself on the back and CELEBRATE with family and friends. When you cross the finish line of that race, pump your fist in the air and yell “F**k yeah”!!!
AND
When it’s your birthday…why not hop on a flight to sunny California to visit family and take in some breathtaking Pacific sunsets. 😎. Create new moments and new memories.
Sometimes ya gotta worry less and live more. Remember the post on Memento Mori last year. Live each day with a sense of purpose and urgency because despite our best intentions, life often does and most certainly will throw us a few curveballs.
“Everyone has a plan: until they get punched in the face” – Mike Tyson.
The bottom line is:
Learn new sh*t. Do new sh*t. Move forward. Setbacks or switching to Plan B is part of the process. Think of it this way, you are just building your next milestone and creating fuel for your next celebration!
When you reach a milestone, give yourself a “Booyah.”
And when it’s birthday time…celebrate that milestone.
For me, reaching the one year mark of Your PrimalMed Prescription is a milestone. Time to look back BUT also look ahead!
Thank you PrimalRD for your input, your encouragement and of course, your much needed editing skills!!! Love ya!!!
Happy Birthday Ellen ♥️♥️
BTW, this classic by a very young Billy Joel was the First Dance selection at the PrimalMed wedding (Or as I call it…PrimalWed) way back in 1989.
What was your FIRST DANCE song? If you are not betrothed, well then, what were some of your most recent “booyah” moments?
Let’s hear it in the comments.
